Do-It Hang Tab trims lawn mower blade package 90%
Husqvarna wanted to give its Craftsman Lawn Mover Blades an environmental overhaul by reducing the amount of plastic packaging. The company turned to Greenville Converting and Do-It Corporation, who reduced packaging materials 90%.
Working with Greenville, Do-It designed a 2x3-inch round hole hang tab that adheres directly to the 1.75-pound blade (with a euro-hole version for the European market). A label goes on the blade's center and a shrink sleeve wrap encloses the blade and hang tab. Perforations on the hang tab allow it to conform to the blade's rounded surface. The previous packaging consisted of a clamshell 22.5 inches long and 1.5 inches deep with a three-color printed insert and full-length instruction label on the back of the clamshell.
Do-It's Hang Tab saves 63 tons of plastic per year (based on Husqvarna's annual usage), allows the blade to hang on peg hooks and makes the blade accessible to customers by letting them touch, feel and inspect the blade prior to purchase. With less packaging, stores can hang more in the same space and spend less time restocking. Husqvarna saves costs on materials, master cartoning and shipping.
